What do you ride?
Republic frame, Sugino cranks, MKS pedals, Brooks Saddle – 46/16
(I also have a 10-speed 1974 Peugeot Mixte)
How long have you been riding?
I rode when I was younger, but stated back up about a year ago. Started riding fixed in September of ‘09 and fell in love.
Why do you ride fixed?
Control.
How’d you get introduced to fixed riding?
I started riding my Peugeot but wanted something that required less maintenance, so after seeing a few friends riding fixed, I decided to give it a try.
Why do you wanna go to Austin?
Personal challenge. Also to spread awareness about fixed-gear cycling in Dallas.
Do you have any distance riding experience?
Other than training for this ride… nope.
How are you preparing for the ride?
I try to ride at least 100 miles a week (with work, its not an easy task) along with eating a lot of carbs and joining in on as many group rides as possible.
Where’s your favorite place in town to go ride? In the world?
I wish I could have a favorite global riding spot, but with only Dallas experience, I’d say the hills of Oak Cliff rock my world.
Do you have any inspirations or heroes?
In all honesty, my fellow riders have been a main source of inspiration for me while training for this ride. Watching them ride not only helps my technique and form, but riding with them makes me push myself in ways I never thought I could.
What’s the stupidest/most embarrassing thing you’ve done on your bike?
I’m currently wearing an ace bandage on my sprained ankle from getting a bag stuck on my saddle and falling over going less than 1mph.
I also have mad scars from my first fixed gear ride ever – I superman skidded on my right side for about 10 feet… that was fun.
Anything else we should be aware of?
I may be a chick, but I’ll kick your ass.
